Abstract:
Aim of this study is to investigate if the collimator rotation has an influence on the dose distribution in volumetric arc therapy (VMAT) for head and neck cancer. The computed tomography (CT) scans of 10 patients were included in the study. VMAT plans, with two full arcs, were generated with two different approaches: first approach was to use collimator rotation of 30 and 330 degrees, and second approach was to use collimator rotation of 0 and 90 degrees. All plans were analyzed using dose volume histograms. Conformity index (CI) and heterogeneity index (HI) were calculated. Results for planning target volume (PTV) coverage and sparing organs at risk were similar for both approaches.
