Abstract:
Speeding, either in relation to the traffic conditions or the speed limit, is without a doubt one of the most common mistakes - that are causing traffic accidents. Since speed is the key factor that determines kinetic energy of a human body during a traffic accident, it is the most important factor that influences the result of an accident and the most important factor that needs to be kept under control. Traffic control is a useful means of speed control in places where speed is either too high and/or inappropriate when it comes to the condition, kind and the purpose of a road. By streamlining traffic, it is possible to increase the comfort and safety of pedestrians and reduce the immediate harmful effects on the environment - downsize the noise level and air pollution. To achieve the set goal, a whole series of procedures should be carried out, consisting of the reconstruction of existing road network, provision of special equipment and traffic signaling and the introduction of consistent and effective regulations. This paper shows different means of traffic control that consider the European and domestic experiences, and also gives an overview of the national legal and technical regulations in this area.
