Abstract:
In many European countries cycling is very popular, and the reason for this is very high ecological dedication, high taxes on cars, legal regulations that favour cyclists and a well-organized cycling infrastructure. Experience in many European cities have shown that improving the conditions for the performance of bicycle traffic significantly increases the number of cyclists and bicycle travel. One of the important preconditions for the development of cycling traffic, besides providing adequate bicycle infrastructure, is the existence of quality legal regulations. In many countries of Europe, cyclists are allowed two-way cycling in one-way streets, safe and in accordance with traffic conditions. In this way, individual destinations are more accessible and contribute to more efficient movement, because it offers cyclists the option of shortcuts, especially in terms of travel up to 5 km. The advantage of this rule is that cyclists driving in the opposite direction in one-way streets have visual contact with upcoming motor vehicles. In this paper will be presented the experiences of developed countries regarding two-way cycling in one way streets.
