Abstract:
Hemotherapeutics or antimicrobial drugs are substances that inhibit the development of pathogenic bacteria, as well as other microorganisms in the human body, while their toxicity levels are not damaging patients. Antiinfective drugs have been discovered and introduced in the treatment of illnesses for over 70 years. Their discovery and application in therapy is one of the most important achievements in the history of medicine. The use of these drugs has changed the course of the disease and the prognosis of many infectious diseases. It has been estimated that there are more than 400 diseases affecting the oral cavity. In terms of prevalence, however, the major public health problems are caries and periodontal disease. The diseases of the tooth support tissue represent chronic infectious-destructive diseases, whose onset is due to the presence of numerous bacteria in the dento-gingival complex. Further advance if the disease is conditioned by the immune and defensive status of the host. The materials that can be used in the treatment of parodontation disorders are very diverse. It is very important to select an adequate and efficient antimicrobial agent to successfully suppress the infection of the tooth support tissue. Uncontrolled application of antimicrobial drugs has led to the emergence of the resistance of an increasing number of known bacteria. Resistance to antibiotic bacteria has become a global health problem that can seriously endanger the progress of modern medicine. It is of outmost importance to be rational in the use of antimicrobial agents and apply them only when they are necessary.
