Abstract:
Carbon nanotubes posses large intrinsic carrier mobility due to the week electron coupling with acoustic phonons. We study electron drift velocity (mobility) dependance on temperature in the presence of homogeneous electric field oriented along helically coiled or straight single wall carbon nanotubes. Total scattering rate is obtained as a sum of independent contributions of all allowed electron-phonon processes, determined from selection rules and energy conservation. Electron distribution is calculated over a wide range of electric field strength, numerically extracted as a solution of the steady-state multiband Boltzman transport equations, solved in the momentum space. Atypical values and position of peak in drift velocity dependance on electric field as well as its increased sensitivity to the temperature change are predicted for helically coiled carbon nanotubes.
