Abstract:
One of alternative methods for determination of flue gas flow rate is Fuel factor (“F factor”) that was accepted as a standard method by the US Federal Register in October 1975. This method is often used in calculations related to the environmental protection because it provide relatively simple and quick determination of the toxic and harmful emissions from the combustion processes. Data for the fuel factor for various fuels are available in the literature but, when it comes to coal, they are given for the American coals that are different from the Serbian lignites. Having on mind that the applicability of this factor depends on fuel type, the recommendation is that before application of Fuel factors, thez should be checked comparing to the reference method, measurement of the flue gas flow rate by Pitot probe. In this paper, the results of the measurements obtained during emission measurements from the boilers of the TPP Kostolac A and B during the period of nine years are presented. Based on the known data for the coal ultimate and proximate analysis, the fuel factor for the Serbian lignite Kostolac was determined and afterwards checked, comparing with results of the flue gas flow rate measurement.
